MANILA, Philippines – Connor Tacagni blasted a brace as FC Meralco Manila edged Stallion Laguna FC, 3-2, to solidify its leadership in the Philippines Football League yesterday at Biñan Stadium.

Tacagni headed in two goals five minutes apart in the first half hour to tow the Sparks to a 2-0 start that  hiked their record to a leading 33 points, five clear of second-running Global Cebu (28).

Newly minted AFC Cup Asean Zone champ Ceres Negros FC marked its return to the domestic league with a 3-2 conquest of Kaya FC Makati over at University of Makati Stadium.

Tyler Matas followed up Tacagni’s double with a left-footed strike at the 55th minute to hand Manila a three-nil cushion before Laguna got on the scoresheet via Koo Kyung Joon’s header (76th) and Fitch Arboleda’s last minute finish (93rd).
