MANILA, Philippines — Zark’s head coach Jade Padrigao was relieved more than anyone else on the court as the Jawbreakers thrashed AMA Online Education, 109-91, for their first win in the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup Monday.
The Jawbreakers needed a 15-6 spurt late in the game to pull off their first victory as a franchise at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
“Masaya kasi parang nawala ‘yung jinx,” Padrigao said. “For me, relieved kasi nakapanalo na ako. Sabi ko, always try to be competitive regardless of the win-loss record.”
Zark’s was always on the losing end of blowout games, one was against Racal Motors where they allowed a league-record 140 points last June 8.
But this time, they held the lead for the majority of the game and trailed only by two points at most.
Veterans Clark Bautista, James Mangahas and Robby Celiz paced Zark’s with 18, 26 and 25 points, respectively.
“Sabay-sabay nag-contribute ngayon ‘yung veterans, hindi isa-isa,” Padrigao told.
With the momentum at hand, Padrigao hopes the team will continue their winning ways against the CEU Scorpions on Thursday. – Randell Angelo B. Ritumalta
