TACURONG CITY, Philippines — Gunmen shot dead in a daring attack in Tacurong City on Saturday a councilor in a politically-troubled town in nearby Maguindanao province.
Norhasim Ulangkaya, a member of the Sangguniang Bayan in Datu Abdullah Sangki in the second district of Maguindanao, was to attend a wedding of a relative in a local restaurant when two men disguised as guests attacked with .45-caliber pistols.
Ulangkaya, who was hit in different parts of his body, was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians at the St. Louis Hospital, which is a short distance from the crime scene.
A guest named Norma Karatuan, who was seated close to Ulangkaya, was wounded in the shooting frenzy.
Senior Superintendent Raul Supiter, director of the Sultan Kudarat provincial police, said probers are certain an old grudge may have lead to the murder of Ulangkaya.
Supiter said they have requested other guests at the wedding reception to help shed light on the incident.
